I might be a year and a bit late to comment but I just had to express a bit of my feelings. The pieces in this album are fantastic. I am truly glad that I have watched Aria because this album only does the anime justice. Every single note reveals a glimpse of animation from Aria. It's like you're right beside the cast walking along them on Aqua. It's truly a magnificent feeling, almost one that brings me to tears. A masterpiece indeed.

@depthcharge101
I agree with zzeroparticle here. The album has enough merit to stand alone without having to measure up to it's original pieces. Although I will say, knowing the original compositions would greatly benefit the listener. It's a win-win situation in my book. If you are picking this album up without any prior knowledge of Aria or the original soundtracks these arrangements come from, you still have a great album, and even if you are a veteran fan of Aria who knows every song from the series by heart, the album is still amazing. You can't go wrong here.

While I can't speak for sung gyu, I doubt that one would need to know the original sources to be able to appreciate this particular album. Great music knows no boundaries and ARIA's music is one of those where even if you haven't watched the series, you can appreciate the music, so I'd go as far as to say that context is unneeded, at least in this instance.

Hmmm I couldn't agree more to rating this piano album a masterpiece. Although sometimes I do wonder if knowing the original theme of the songs have an effect on listening to the piano arranged versions, maybe, just maybe it could feel less enchanting...
