Anime Music on the AIRS Ep. 5 – Traditional Japanese Music

qwerqcv
On this week’s Anime Music on the AIRS, we touch on traditional Japanese music, where samurai, leftover idols, and spirits all mix in perfect harmony. Thanks again to your feedback and support!

This time, we were a bit late due to issues with Youtube. By which I mean they weren’t happy with some of your requests, so we wound up having the strip them out. Maybe someday, we’ll release what we had intended to release… assuming this program ever gets popular enough. It was a bit of a challenge trying to maintain some semblance of balance and variety, but we hope you enjoy this effort all the same! So with that, sit back, relax, and let’s explore those traditional Japanese themes.

Again, let us know what you think, whether it’s about the formatting of the show, track selections, or anything else that comes to mind. Also, please feel free to request tracks to be played in future shows and we’ll get in as many as we can! I’ll be taking the week off in two weeks, so one of Anime Instrumentality’s staffers will fill in on my behalf (hopefully)! As to what the theme is, that’ll be a surprise. We’ll go back to our normal mode of operations on June 24.

Also, if you have other themes you’d like me to place on the docket, feel free to throw your suggestions our way.

Finally, if you enjoy these video and would like to help us out, consider contributing to our Patreon campaign. With your support, we’ll be able to increase our output even more and expand our reach in ways that are outside our capabilities at the moment.

Anime Instrumentality's Founder and Editor-in-Chief. As you can probably guess, I'm a big anime music junkie with a special love for composers who've put out some beautiful melodies to accompany some of my favorite anime series. I tend to gravitate towards music in the classical style with Joe Hisaishi and Yoko Kanno being a few of my favorite composers, but I've come to appreciate jazz and rock as anime music has widened my tastes.

Now that I hear your selection (I’ve only seen half of the shows you chose music from btw) I think that I definitely should have recommended a children’s rhyme like the ‘Nursery Rhyme’ in ‘Kaguya Hime’; such a piece shouldn’t be missing in a selection of Traditional Japanese Music in Anime…

Another great session! I love this type of music, the track of Mushishi was especially amazing, I’m going to go listen to the ost in full now!

Theme ideas I’d be interested in seeing would be a underwater/sailing/pirate music theme. And I’m always looking for and love slice-of-life playful comedy melodies with lots of pizzicato. Jazz, magic, and detective/spy like music would also make great themes!

All of those suggestions are pretty solid! We’ll definitely get to them at some point. Glad you enjoyed the show!

Unfortunate about the YouTube flagging issues- guess we’ll have to dig for only the most obscure of song choices! For now, I’ll pour one out for Natsu Yuuzora getting axed:

Thanks for keeping the Zektbach track in, even if it was a stretch for the ‘anime’ side of things! The Masinowa album is full of great cultural flair, so I was happy to sneak in something slightly tangential that was still related to the theme.

It’s also worth pointing out that Zektbach is just a pseudonym used by Tomosuke Funaki, who does a wide variety of songs for Bemani music games.

Great job with another fun episode!

Wow, did that Inuyasha song ever take me back. I hadn’t heard that in ages.

    Some really great selections!

Good melodies last a lifetime. Though in the case of Inuyasha, the sheer number of times they use that melody helps too. Glad you enjoyed the episode!
